In order to measure your sleep, the Neuroon acquires bioelectrical signals from your forehead using skin friendly, dry electrodes. Neuroon measures the biological parameters of the sleeper, including brain waves (single-channel EEG), pulse (pulse oximetry), body temperature, eye movement (EOG) and body movement during sleep (actigraphy). The captured biological signals are then transmitted to a microprocessor embedded into the mask and analyzed with a state-of-the-art program.
If you drink coffee a couple of hours before using the Neuroon you can have problems falling asleep. If you drink alcohol you will have problems with getting good sleep and rest.
The mask (soft part - SoftPack) can be cleaned using a cold water, hand wash only (you should follow the instructions attached to the device). But remember never to wash the SmartPack (intelligent part of Neuroon).

1. Hold the mask with the front side facing you, then detach the left or right corner from the foamy interior. The belt is located between the two layers.
2. Now disconnect the belt from the Velcro and adjust it to your needs.
3. When you are finished, reconnect all the layers of the mask.
A DOUBLE - LED SOLID BLUE LIGHT - means your Neuroon is on standby; use your Mobile App to choose the action you would like to take.
A DOUBLE - LED FLASHING BLUE LIGHT - means your mobile app is searching for the Neuroon (it should be close by) as part of the Pairing Process.
A DOUBLE-LED CONSTANT GREEN LIGHT - means the Neuroon is ready to start analyzing your sleep or nap data. You can now put your mask on your forehead. The light will stop shining once the Neuroon is correctly positioned on your forehead (when the electrodes touch the forehead ).
A SMALL SINGLE RED LIGHT (ON THE UPPER LEFT SIDE OF THE SMART PACK) - indicates that you have started a Program. If you wish to end the program (SLEEP, PERSONAL PAUSE, LIGHT BOOST, JET LAG BLOCKER, NEUROON SUNRISE) you must click the button on the mask.
PLEASE NOTE : The small single red light doesn’t impose any real impact on the battery life.
A SINGLE-LED CONSTANT RED LIGHT (when connected to a charger) - means the Neuroon is charging. Please do not disconnect the charger until the Neuroon is fully charged.
A SINGLE-LED CONSTANT GREEN LIGHT (when connected to a charger) - means that your Neuroon is fully charged.
Click and hold the button (approx. 1 sec) - turns on / turns off the device.
1 long click (approx. 8 sec) - resets the device.
You can find the power button in the middle of the mask on the inside.
If you experience one of the following problems, it may be fixed by restarting your mask :
1. Your mask isn’t syncing
2. Your mask has a battery charge but isn’t lighting up
3. Your mask isn't responding to button presses
To restart your Neuroon:
1. Press and hold the button for 8 to 10 seconds.
2. Let go off the button.
3. The Neuroon will flash colored lights, ending with a vibration. After the vibration, the reset is complete.
Now your Neuroon should work normally.
To hard reset your Neuroon:
1. Connect the charger to the Smart Pack
2. Press and hold the turn on/off button for at least 10s
3. While still holding the button down, unplug the charger and then release the button
4. All the diodes (lights) will blink (it means that the hard reset was done correctly, if not try again)
5. Plug the charger into the Smart Pack and you should see the charging light (red or green)
Remember to have Bluetooth connection switched ON!
1. First, you must setup the alarm clock in your mobile app and enter the time you want to wake up.
2. Next, click “Start Sleep” on the main Sleep Analytics screen.
3. Then put on your mask. When the mask is positioned correctly on your forehead, the constant double green light will turn off after short time.
To end your sleep earlier than you originally programmed the alarm, you must push the button on the mask. Then the Red Light indicating that the program is on will disappear and the Neuroon will send your data to the Neuroon App. At this time you will see Blue Lights indicating that the Neuroon is on, but the sleep program is off. In order to completely turn off the Neuroon, you must click the button one more time.
Remember that if you want to only pause sleeping with Neuroon (eg. because you woke up for a minute and want to go to toilet, kitchet etc.) you just need to take of the mask for this time but not press any button neither on the mask, nor in Neuroon App.
1. Connect the charging cable to a charger or a computer. Then connect the other end to Neuroon.
2. A single solid red light will indicate that the mask is charging.
3. Do not disconnect the charger until the light turns into a steady green light indicating the Neuroon is fully charged.
4. When your mask is fully charged, unplug it from the charger.
5. Download the Neuroon App from neuroon.com/app . Install it on your mobile device.
6. Turn on the Neuroon by pressing the button located on the front of the mask (indicated by the removable sticker marked POWER) with one short click.
7. After pressing the POWER button, a solid blue light will turn on indicating that your Neuroon is now on standby mode.
8. Your Neuroon Mask is now ready to link with the mobile app. Please make sure that Bluetooth BLE is turned on on your mobile device.
9. Open the Neuroon app on your mobile device. Sign in using the email and password you set up at the My Neuroon Customer Portal. If you don’t have an account yet you can sign up for one right now.
10. Enter your personal data including your date of birth, height, weight, and sleep problems so we can customize the mask to your needs.
11. Make sure the Neuroon is turned on, closeby, and that the standby light is glowing blue. Tap to continue when you are ready.
12. The blue lights on the mask should start flashing. This means your Neuroon was successfully paired with your app. Well done!
13. You are now on the main dashboard of the app and ready to start exploring all the features.
The Neuroon apps will support both iOS and Android. Currently we have no plans regarding Blackberry/Windows Phone, however, if after the launch of the Neuroon there is significant interest in those systems, we will consider it.
Data transmission (Bluetooth) occurs only when the mask is removed from the user's face.
Currently, the application is available in English and Japanese. In the future we are planning to expand to other languages.

All wireless communication is disabled while the user is wearing the Neuroon. The Bluetooth is enabled and the data is sent to the mobile app after the user wakes up and takes off the Neuroon. Our bodies and our brains are electrochemicals organs. During their work they produce an electric activity that can be measured by placing electrical conductors on skin and recording the changing difference in its electrical potential. This is how EEG works and this is how Neuroon is able to provide you with vivid information about your sleep.
As you probably know, this electrical activity of our brains is often divided into bands by the frequency of potential change oscillation - brainwaves. It's a very functional division. The correlation between our consciousness state and the activity in particular frequency bands is scientifically confirmed. We typically distinguish five brainwaves bands: delta, theta, alpha, beta and gamma, with delta being the strongest in its amplitude and slowest in oscillation speed (dominant in deep sleep), and gamma being the most subtle, complex and vibrating on highest frequencies (observed during meditation).
With Neuroon we are able to gather information about state of your body during your sleep. We measure energy levels of brain waves, pulse, temperature, movement and its strength.
Collected data is then analyzed with artificial neural network (with the mobile app updates we plan to switch to promising deep learning techniques) supported by dynamic decision tree which takes into account measurement history. It gives us knowledge about how you slept and thus enables to adapt power naps or choose an appropriate tip from our growing database of advice concerning day/night cycle energy rhythm and sleep.

A lot of research carried out recently proves the effectiveness and usefulness of naps during the day. One of the institutions which has conducted such a pioneering study is Harvard. Many scientists incline towards a thesis that humans function with a biphasic and not a monophasic 24 hour rhythm which means that an afternoon siesta, so common in southern countries, is the natural.
Most of us feel sleepy between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., what is connected to this phenomenon.
There are two reasons of our sense of sleepiness and our overall sleep rhythm :
1. Sleep pressure, which is enormous in the evening and negligible in the morning. It determines if our body is in need of free-phase sleep( so called deep sleep)
2. So called sleep phase which determines if our body is in need of REM phase.
These relations differ during the day and that is why depending on when we have a nap and how long it takes, the proportions of sleep phases are different. We need every single sleep phase as each has different functions and benefits.
The Neuroon feature permits to have a short nap for a predetermined period of time. There are three options of taking a nap. The first one is a 20 min nap, which reduces sleepiness, heightens alertness, increases concentration, enhances motor performance and elevates mood. The REM nap that takes 60 minutes results in increased creativity, improved emotional memory, keener perceptual processing and a better memory of complex associative information. There is also an option of taking an ultimate 90 min nap.
Thanks to this, depending on what we need in a certain moment, we can design our naps. We cannot do it during night sleep as we cannot sufficiently influence it( precisely, the ratio of all sleep phases), however we can freely design our naps and this is why Neuroon may come in handy.
Depending on our needs, Neuroon will suggest you what is the most optimal moment to take a nap and will make sure to wake us up with no sleep inertia by using the Bright Light Therapy( we have already vividly described it). Undoubtedly, many of you have wondered why we feel so horrible after waking up and why the snooze button becomes our best friend out of the blue. The answer to the questions is connected to sleep inertia which is caused by the changes of blood circulation in our brains during sleep, which is a normal physiological human state. In other words, we all feel like you in the morning!
It is a tricky question how to find a solution and feel fresh and energetic in the morning and only few people have mastered the skill of waking up with a smile on their face. Sleep inertia is such a significant problem that even scientists try to study its reasons and the possibilities of minimizing it. Interestingly, research carried out by prestigious scientific institutions, including Harvard, even disprove this theory.

Anyone who has ever travelled long distance is well aware of the existence of jet lag and its power to destroy holiday plans or affect efficiency during business meetings. Currently, there is no effective way to beat jet lag once and for all. Definitely, some of you have visited a doctor asking for a melatonin prescription which may bring relief to some people.

Seek Light - it means that if you are awake you should seek exposure to the sun or use the Light Boost function with your mask.
Feeling Sleepy - the period you are most likely to feel sleepy. Try to not schedule anything important during this period.
Avoid Light - during this period you should avoid sunlight or other strong light. Stay inside or wear dark glasses outside.
1. Tap SET ALARM in the Neuroon App main screen.
2. Choose the type of alarm that best suits your needs: biorhythm alarm or one-day alarm
3. Set the time that is best for you.
4. Tap Start Sleep and you will be woken up at the time that you set. To learn more, go to the section How do I START and END sleeping with the Neuroon?
Biorhythm Adjuster is set up automatically so there is nothing extra for you to do.
To start the Program, you must click on the “ENERGY+” option in the Mobile App and then choose “Light Boost”. Put on the mask. When you wake up and remove the mask, click the button on the mask to finish the program.
To start the Personal Pause, click on the “ENERGY+” option in the Mobile App and choose from one of four specially designed naps. When you wake up and remove the mask, click the button on the mask to finish the program.
Neuroon Sunrise is set up automatically so there is nothing extra for you to do.
If you want to turn off the Neuroon Sunrise, go to the section Alarms and swipe the yellow button titled as Artificial Dawn for "Don't use"

The Neuroon uses a reflectance-type pulse oximeter sensor, than can be mounted on the forehead, so there is no need for any additional finger or ear clip. Reflectance-based pulse oximeter sensors measure light reflected off the subcutaneous tissue and bone, and allow measurements to be taken from areas of the body different from the fingers or ears (e.g. chest, wrist, forehead).
Charging time will not exceed 6 hours when charging via computer using USB cable added to Neuroon.
While there is only one version of the Neuroon, we will release a separate developer dongle for purchase in the future. It will allow for live signal streaming from the Neuroon.
The Neuroon is charged with a simple USB cable that will be provided in the package.
Neuroon App collects anonymous aggregated data for research purposes. We do not collect any raw data.
Currently the battery runs the whole two nights before it needs to be recharged. Our Software Team is working on optimizing battery life, and we are confident that it will be extended in the future.
Wristbands and watches only measure your movement with the accelerometer embedded into the band or smartphone. This technology, called actigraphy, cannot be used for sleep staging (precise sleep measurement and description). The Neuroon operates in a manner similar to a professional medical polysomnograph and, as opposed to these devices, measures your biological signal brain waves that are required for complete sleep diagnosis.
For the purposes of the Neuroon, a single-channel EEG system is sufficient and there is no need to lower your comfort by increasing the number of electrodes. A similar type of system is installed in the helmets of pilots in the Israeli air force. When the pilot puts on their helmet, the electrodes are placed on the correct spots on the skin, around the frontal lobe of the brain, allowing for the accurate sending of information concerning the pilot’s level of consciousness (or lack thereof).
Please, follow this steps:
1. Press and hold the button for 2 seconds.
2. Plug the mask into a power source with the charging cable, then wait 10 seconds.
3. Need help? Has any light illuminated on the mask? If not, please try moving the charging cord around.
4. Need help? Has any light illuminated on the mask? If not, please try using another power cord (the cord might be damaged).
5. Need Help? Has any light illuminated on the mask? If not, please try removing dust or hairs from the USB connector (there might be a connection problem).
6. Need help? Has any light illuminated on the mask? If not, please perform the hard reset using the instructions below:
1) Connect the charger to the Smart Pack
2) Press and hold the turn on/off button for at least 10 seconds
3) While still holding the button down, unplug the charger and then immediately release the button
4) Plug the charger into the Smart Pack and you should see the charging light illuminate (red or green)

Pulse oximetry is an essential tool in clinical and home sleep testing. It is also essential in diagnosing sleep apnea. Blood oxygen desaturation worsens existing conditions such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), perhaps even contributing to the onset of these conditions. It is the gold standard in home apnea testing.

Generally, EMG signal is of higher frequency than EEG and can easily be identified. Neuroscientists and engineers have developed many approaches for EMG-artifacts extraction from EEG signal including artificial neural networks, linear filtering, blind source separation, subtraction methods and others.
The EEG signal is usually artifact-contaminated. Because of its very low amplitude, it is highly susceptible to various forms of noise. Myogenic potentials (EMG) are common artifacts.
EEG (electroencephalography) refers to the recording of the brain’s spontaneous electrical activity (brain waves). Our brain cells communicate via electrical impulses and are active all the time, even when we are asleep.
EMG (electromyogram) records muscle activity such as face twitches, teeth grinding, and leg movement; it also helps in determining the presence of REM stage sleep.
Pulse oximetry is a non-invasive method for pulse rate and blood oxygen levels monitoring. Sensors emit light of two wavelengths (usually red and near-infrared) and measure the change in light absorbance for each wavelength. Oxygenated hemoglobin absorbs more infrared light and allows more red light to pass through. Deoxygenated hemoglobin absorbs more red light and allows more infrared light to pass through. Based on these measurements, we can calculate blood oxygen levels and heart rate.
Although there are no definite contraindications for Bright Light Treatment other than for retinopathies (eye diseases), research studies have routinely excluded patients with glaucoma or cataract. Some of these patients have used light therapy effectively in open treatment; however, this should be done only with a doctor’s (ophthalmologic) monitoring. A simple eye checkup is advised for all new patients, for which a structured examination chart has been designed. The examination has occasionally revealed preexisting ocular conditions that should be distinguished from the potential consequences of Bright Light Treatment. Because of the use of flashing light, the Neuroon must not be used by users with Epilepsy or Seizures Caused by Flashing Light.
Because the Neuroon uses steel, gold-plated electrodes it must not be used by users with the following medical conditions:
PRECAUTION: If a patient has diminished skin sensation, the full benefit of the Neuroon functionality may not be realised.

The warranty does not apply to:
(a) damage resulting from abuse, misuse, accident, or negligence,
(b) normal wear and tear,
(c) defects caused by alterations, modifications, unusual stress, improper storage (including but not limited to use in wet conditions), repair and servicing not made or authorized by Inteliclinic,
(d) damage caused by handling, operating or using the Product outside the permitted or intended uses described in the Documentation,
(e) defects that are not reproducible by Inteliclinic,
(f) cosmetic damage, such as scratches, dents and broken plastic, and
(g) consumables, including in particular batteries, unless damaged due to a manufacturing defect.
Within the Warranty Period, if any defect arises and you make a claim and return the product in accordance with our Warranty Policy (described below), we will, at our option, either (a) repair the Neuroon using either new or refurbished parts, (b) replace the defective Neuroon or part with a new or refurbished Neuroon or part, or (c) refund your order. Any replacement may be, at the option of Inteliclinic, a new product (including a next-generation model providing functionalities materially similar to those of the originally purchased Neuroon) or re- manufactured product.
